JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government has postponed the plan to deactivate the population identification number (NIK) of DKI Jakarta residents who have moved and live outside the region in March 2024.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency (Disdukcapil) Budi Awaluddin said that the control of population administration in Jakarta will only be carried out after the determination of the results of the 2024 General Election.

"We are still waiting for the official announcement. It has not been (imposed) this March," Budi said in a short message, Monday, February 26.

This decision refers to the recommendations of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD which views that the deactivation of the NIK of DKI residents living outside the area has only been effective after the election event.

Meanwhile, the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced the results of the recapitulation of vote count no later than March 20. Then, the determination of the election results was carried out no later than three days after the notification or decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding election disputes.

Budi emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government has conducted socialization on the plan to deactivate the NIK of residents with DKI ID cards who have moved since September 2023. This deactivation was also carried out on residents who had died.

"Since the end of 2023 we have been socialized regarding the orderly administration, starting from collecting data on residents who are de jure and de facto different, unknown whereabouts, deaths and others," said Budi.

However, the deactivation of this NIK is excluded from residents who are studying or work offices outside the city within a certain period of time, as well as residents who have assets in Jakarta.

"For those on duty or service, and studying abroad or abroad, they are not subject to controlling population documents according to their domicile. Likewise, those who still have assets or houses in Jakarta," said Budi.

It is recorded that many residents have started to move their population data according to their current residence. There are 243,160 residents who left Jakarta while there are 136,200 new arrivals from outside Jakarta throughout 2023.

Then, the DKI Provincial Government also noted that 81,000 people have died and 13,000 RTs are no longer there.
