JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) revealed that many companies do not require their employees to take holidays on the D-Day of voting, Wednesday, February 14.
This, according to the Commissioner for the Study and Research of Komnas HAM Saurlin P. Siagianyang, made many workers work and ignore their rights in choosing.
"Many jobs cannot vote and lose their voting rights because they have to work on vote counting day," said Saurlin P. Siagian at the Komnas HAM Office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, February 21.
According to him, several companies actually provide more incentives for employees who want to continue working during the voting day.
This, he continued, made people prefer to come to work with the lure of incentives rather than voting at polling stations (TPS).
Saurlin said that the regional KPU should coordinate with the local government or the labor service to urge all companies to cancel their employees on voting day.
Thus, he said, employees can freely take advantage of their votes to elect a presidential candidate and a legislative candidate.
When asked how many companies did this and the number of employees who could not choose according to the goals of Komnas HAM, Saurlin could not explain in detail.
"Of the 50 locations monitored, there are facts. However, I cannot submit statistical data yet," he said.
