JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono released the distribution of 15 thousand tons of rice to Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas. The distribution of this rice is carried out in stages.

"Today we together with relevant stakeholders ensure that the stock of premium rice at the Cipinang Main Market is maintained availability. So that we can send 15 thousand tons of rice in stages to meet the needs of residents throughout Jabodetabek," said Heru at the Cipinang Rice Main Market Complex, Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta, Wednesday, February 21.

For today, the distribution is carried out as much as 300 tons of rice transported by 20 trucks to various Jabodetabek areas. This, continued Heru, was done in order to meet the targets instructed by President Joko Widodo.

The currently stored rice reserves in Jakarta are around 30 thousand tons and will be distributed in stages until the Eid Al-Fitr 1445 Hijri.

"So this is enough to meet the needs of modern retail around Jabodetabek. So people don't have to worry about the availability of rice stocks," explained Heru.

Not only that, Heru said that the DKI Provincial Government also has a safety stock stored in PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya, which is around 30 thousand tons of rice.

"We urge the public to be wiser in buying their rice needs. Approximately 10 kilograms is sufficient for the needs of the family for a month," said Heru.

Since some time ago, rice prices have skyrocketed. At the same time premium rice is rare in the market and retail stores. The DKI Provincial Government asks the public not to panic buying or rashly buy large amounts of rice when facing this condition.

"We make sure Jakarta's food stocks are safe so people don't need to panic buying," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Food, Maritime and Agriculture Security Service Suharini Eliawati.

Eli revealed that the scarcity of premium types of rice in minimarkets that the public has complained about in the last few days is due to the absence of the current harvest season.

"The big harvest is expected to only occur in mid-March 2024, resulting in an imbalance between supply and demand," he said.

In addition, the reduced activity of traders due to the long holiday and the retail period of recharging rice stocks are also the cause of scarcity.
