The Match Was Stopped, Atletico Thwarted Real Madrid's Victory In The Last Minute

JAKARTA - Real Madrid failed to win Madrid Derby after being detained by Atletico Madrid 1-1 in the Spanish La Liga match at the Metropolitano Stadium, Monday, September 30, 2024 in the morning WIB. The match itself was stopped due to the action of supporters.

Madrid actually have the opportunity to win the match as well as close their points with the leaders of the Barcelona standings. Moreover, Barca have suffered their first defeat in the domestic competition. In the duel against Osasuna, Hansi Flick's team were forced to give up 4-2.

But Madrid failed to maximize Barca's defeat to add three points. When visiting the headquarters of one city rivals, Atletico, Carlo Ancelotti's troops were unable to maintain victory in sight.

Madrid finally conceded when the game entered the 90+9 minute. Moments later, the final whistle sounded.

The draw made Madrid only able to cut a single point with Barca which is firm at the top of the standings. Barca itself has 21 points.

Meanwhile, Los Merengues, who are in second place, pocketed 18 points. Atletico also remained in the top three. Now, Los Rojiblancos get 16.

The match itself went tight and was stopped because of Atletico's hardline supporters who threw objects into the field. The perpetrator was identified, namely Fondo Sur. He threw objects at Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois

The incident occurred shortly after Atletico's goal conceded. Defender Eder Militao successfully broke the deadlock and beat goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the 69th minute. And, five minutes later, Fondo Sur took inappropriate action so Courtois asked the referee for attention.

Due to the actions of supporters, referee Mateo Busquets stopped the match. Atletico Koke captain and Jose defender Maria Gimenez actually acted by asking the fans to calm down. However, the referee had decided the match was postponed. Busquets also asked the players of both teams to leave the field and go to the dressing room.

Supporters receive warnings if they are still acting up, the match will be stopped. After experiencing a 20-minute delay, the match resumed.

As the match continued, Atletico immediately put pressure on Madrid's defense. However, Diego Simeone's troops still had difficulty scoring goals.

Antoine Griezman et al's patience finally paid off. When the match was expected to end in a draw, substitute Angel Correa saved Atletico from defeat. Through a counter-attack, this Argentine national team player managed to break into Courtois' goal through a close-range kick.

The score changed 1-1. Just a few seconds after the goal, the referee blew the final whistle of the game. Madrid also had to settle for the draw.
