Police Thwart The Smuggling Of 36 Tons Of Illegal Coal In Jambi

JAMBI - Bungo Police, Jambi, thwarted the smuggling of 36 tons of illegal coal and arrested four people who were named suspects.

Bungo Police Chief AKBP Singgih Hermawan said the new illegal coal case was revealed from two cases handled by the Bungo Police Satreskrim.

"This smuggling case was revealed when the goods were brought across the Sumatra Cross Road, Bungo. There were two cases, 10 tons and 26 tons with a total of 36 tons of coal without official documents," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 6.

The location of the disclosure of the first case was precisely in Tanah Priuk Village, Tanah Sepel Lintas District, Bungo. From this arrest, the police arrested two drivers with the initials MN (28) and EP (30). The two drivers are known to have Bungo residents.

Furthermore, in the second case, the police arrested suspects N (43) and AH (30) who were known residents of Jambi City. The two suspects were arrested in Bathin II Pralayang District.

The mode used in these two cases is the same, namely transporting coal by truck without legal documents. From the perpetrators, it is known that coal is planned to be brought to the island of Java.

The coal was transported from illegal mines in Bungo and West Sumatra.

From the examination carried out, it was revealed that the illegal coal transportation was not the first time the suspects had carried out it.

Until now, the police are still developing a case of seeking information on the illegal coal recipients.

The perpetrators were charged with Article 161 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 3 of 2020 concerning Amendments to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1e of the Criminal Code or Article 362 Jo Article 480 to 1e threatened with 5 years in prison.
