Treated in Hospital for Two Weeks After Surgery, Kate Middleton May Be Advised to Rest for 2-3 Months

JAKARTA - Catherine Middleton, Princess of Wales, is planned to undergo treatment in hospital after surgery, and may be advised to rest for the next few months from state duties.

The Princess of Wales will spend up to two weeks recovering in hospital, following successful stomach surgery.

"Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales was admitted to the London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery," Kensington Palace said in a statement, Wednesday, reported by CNN, January 18.

The operation was successful and Catherine, known to many as Kate, will remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, the statement said.

It is not clear what the operation was for, but a royal source told CNN the condition was not cancer.

Based on current medical advice, he is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter, he added.

Once discharged, Kate is expected to recover at her home in Windsor, royal sources said.

She will likely be advised to recuperate for two to three months, and her return to official duties will depend on timely medical advice, the source said.

"The Princess of Wales appreciates the attention this statement has generated. She hopes the public understands her desire to maintain as much normality as possible for her children; and her desire for her personal medical information to remain private," the palace explained, and promised to provide further information if possible.

Royal sources say William Prince of Wales will accompany his wife and children during her recovery process. He will not perform official duties while his wife is in the hospital, and immediately after she returns home.

Additionally, William and Kate are not expected to travel internationally for the next few months, according to the source.

"The Princess of Wales would like to apologize to all concerned for the fact that she has had to postpone her upcoming engagement. She looks forward to rehiring as many people as possible, as soon as possible," the palace said.

It is known that Kate, who celebrated her 42nd birthday on January 9, does not have any health problems. She is known to be fit and healthy.
