After The Flood Soaks In The Braga Area, The Bandung City Government Repairs Broken Embankments In Sumurbandung

The City Government (Pemkot) of Bandung, West Java repaired a broken embankment in the Cikapundung River, triggered by heavy rains with high intensity on Thursday, causing dozens of houses in Braga Village, Sumurbandung District to be flooded.

Acting (Pj) Mayor of Bandung Bambang Tirtoyuliono admitted that he had ordered the Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM) to repair several places on the broken embankment.

"The handling is very, very temporary, including repairing embankments. So there is a embankment of approximately 10 to 12 meters for us to repair," said Tirto, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 12.

He ensured that the repair of the embankment was completed today to anticipate flooding again into residential areas.

"Until today, we are still making efforts to handle it and we make sure that today's embankment repairs are completed, because that may be one of the factors causing the water from the Cikampundung River to residential areas," he said.

He admitted that the Cikapundung River embankment had broken because it had not been repaired for a long time. The embankment was repaired for the last time in 2004.

"Lastly, 2004 was repaired, so if we get a report from the residents, the embankment has overfall, it has passed, of course this embankment may have to be elevated, tomorrow we will raise it and strengthen the structure to withstand the load," he said.

Several areas were affected by flooding, including Braga Village, Tamansari, and parts of Regol.

Bambang said that based on the forecast of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), high-intensity rain will still occur in the next few days in the local area.

"Therefore, the public must be more vigilant and the public has been advised to strictly comply with the direction of the officers," he said.
