Anies Says Flood In Jakarta Is Sent By Other Regions, PSI: Don't Blame Others

JAKARTA - Member of the DPRD DKI Jakarta of PSI faction Justin Untayana criticized the statement of DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan who said that flooding in a number of areas in the capital was due to delivered from other areas. He called this reasoning contrary to the facts.

"According to the rainfall data from BMKG, there was indeed heavy rain in Jakarta, especially in the southern part. However, the Katulampa and Depok floodgates are still on standby," Justin said in a written statement as quoted on Sunday, February 21.

With this fact, he said, the floods that occurred were not due to shipments from other areas such as shipments from upstream in Bogor, as claimed by Anies. "Mr. Anies as governor cannot blame anyone but himself," said Justin.

Furthermore, Justin also criticized Anies' attitude who always avoided when asked about the flood solution. He also highlighted how Anies only appealed to residents to be cautious and more focused on dealing with flood victims after the floods occurred in January to February 2020.

"Mr. Anies has been governor for 3 years and 4 months, so it is only natural for residents to ask for real solutions and work results to prevent flooding. So, if you are asked about flood solutions, don't just stand still or even blame the weather and other parties," he said.

Previously reported, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the floods that occurred on Sudirman Street, Kemang Raya Street, Widya Chandra Street, and Tendean Street were caused by the overflow of Krukut River.

He said this when he examined the puddle in Sudirman Street, near the Sudirman Atmaja Water Gate, Central Jakarta.

"So the rainfall that occurs in the upstream area of the Krukut River which crosses Jendral Sudirman Street. In the upstream area, the rainfall is very high, recorded at 136 mm/day," said Anies, Saturday, February 20.

Anies said that the Krukut River was overflowing because it accommodated additional water discharge from local rain from the Depok area, West Java. This means that additional water discharge is not from local rain in the Kemang area or Sudirman Street, but from the area between the upstream and Jakarta.

"The water passes through two rivers, once Mampang and Krukut twice. The two streams meet behind LIPI. The traffic flows to Sudirman. So now is the impact of water sent from the central area around Depok," said Anies.

According to Anies, usually when water comes from the Bogor area (first upstream), the water will pass through the Ciliwung River. Meanwhile, the Krukut River flows water coming from the central area, namely Depok.

"Usually if it rains in the mountains (Bogor area) the water will pass through the Ciliwung River, but if there is heavy rain in the central area (around Depok) then it passes to the middle stream, namely the Krukut River," said Anies.
