Presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto was named Sahabat Santri Indonesia while attending the ‘ Prayer Santri event for Negeri’ at the Tanggong Islamic Boarding School, Probolinggo, East Java, Tuesday, January 2. The caretaker of the Tanggong Islamic Boarding School, Damanhuri, said that Prabowo was asked to become a Friend of the Indonesian Santri to be closer to the santri community. Tens of thousands of students also pray for Prabowo to be elected president in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. "The students hope that if they are elected as president, Prabowo will be closer and synergized with the santri community," said Damanhuri in a press statement, Tuesday, January 2. The students, he continued, hoped that the goal of advancing the nation, knowledge, creating social justice and elevating the dignity of the nation in the international arena could be realized under the leadership of Prabowo-Gibran. The students, said Damanhuri, are aware of the importance of education, integrity, and noble values of local wisdom in building the nation. "Santri, with all humility, want to see Indonesia not only progress in economic and infrastructure aspects, but also in education, culture, and social welfare," he said. Prabowo considers hisappropriation as a friend of students as an honor for him. He also thanked him for the mandate given. The mandate, said Prabowo, will be an reflection and guideline in every step and policy in the future.
