Pangandaran Earthquake Due To Eurasian Plate Activities

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 rocked Pangandaran Regency, West Java on Thursday, December 28 at 05.43 WIB. According to information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred due to faulty activity in the Eurasian plate. "Analytical results show that this earthquake has a mechanism for shear-up movement," said Head of the BMKG Daryono Earthquake and Tsunami Center as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 28. The epicenter of this earthquake is at coordinates 8.18 degrees South Latitude, 107.79 degrees East Longitude and is at sea and is at a depth of 41 kilometers at a distance of 94 kilometers southwest of Pangandaran Regency.

This earthquake was felt in the Garut area with an intensity scale of IV MMI. Then in the Ratu Port area, Cilacap, Sukabumi, Pangandaran and Cianjur with an intensity scale of III MMI. In the Bandung and Bogor areas, vibrations were felt with an intensity scale II-III MMI. BMKG revealed, based on the modeling results, this earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami.
