Surabaya Police Arrest Drug Courier Couple 144 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine

Surabaya Police arrested a husband and wife with the initials MT (30) and RT (28) related to the abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotics. Of the two perpetrators, the police secured 144 kilograms (kg) of crystal methamphetamine as evidence.

*Both were arrested at a hotel on Jalan Diponegoro, Surabaya on Thursday, December 14. And evidence was found in the form of a plastic package of green Chinese tea and 8 plastic clips containing methamphetamine with a total weight of approximately 1,177.31 grams," said East Java Police Chief Inspector General Imam Sugianto, at the Surabaya Police Headquarters, Wednesday, December 20.

Imam explained that the husband and wife were registered as residents of Datuk Bandar, Tanjungbalai City, North Sumatra.

The arrests of the two were made based on information from the Head of Narcotics Unit of the Palembang Police regarding the shipment of narcotics of methamphetamine to Surabaya.

After arresting and examining the two suspects, the Surabaya Police then coordinated with the Asahan Police Narcotics Unit, North Sumatra on Friday, December 15.

Coordination is intended to carry out police actions at the rented house of the two suspects on Jalan Tawes, Asahan Regency, North Sumatra.

"Then found evidence in the form of 134 packs of red Chinese tea plastic containing methamphetamine with a total weight of 142,839 grams," he said.

Based on the confession of the suspect MT, on December 2, 2023, said Imam, at around 02.00 WIB the suspect received an order from a person with the initials K (DPO) to take as many as 185 packs of Chinese tea containing methamphetamine and 14 packs of ecstasy narcotics on the front coast of the temple on Jalan Asahan, Tanjung Balai City.

Furthermore, on December 3, 2023 at around 23.30 WIB, the suspect MT received an order from K to prepare a narcotics package to be sent to Palembang and Surabaya.

Furthermore, MT and his wife, RT left for Palembang City by driving a modified private car to store and hide narcotics.

Then, on K's orders, the suspect was ordered to copy 14 plastic packages containing ecstasy narcotics in Palembang. The suspect was then ordered back to search for methamphetamine at the PHC Hospital in Surabaya

"So far, these couples have made two deliveries with a cost of Rp. 200 million rupiah. Meanwhile, the last shipment, the pesiku have not received a wage," he said.

As a result of his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) Jo. 132 paragraph (1) and Article 112 paragraph (2) Jo. Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics, with the threat of life imprisonment or the death penalty.
