Hot And Terik Temperatures In The Last Week, Here's BMKG's Explanation

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) explained that the cause of hot and quite hot temperatures occurred in several areas in the past week.

In general, this was triggered by the dominance of sunny weather during the day in most areas in Java and Nusa Tenggara.

BMKG Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto said, based on the image of the weather satellite, it was seen that in the last few days in the Java or southern part of Indonesia there were no cloud cover, so that the sun's rays were intense or optimum directly to the earth's surface.

"The lack of rain cloud growth in the Java-Nusa Tenggara region was also triggered by low pressure pattern activity around the South China Sea which caused reduced air mass flow to the south of the equator," he said, Monday, December 18.

Based on the latest analysis, the activity of the low pressure pattern around the South China Sea can still last in the next 3 to 4 days without the tendency to weaken in intensity. Therefore, this can have an impact on the potential for increased rainfall in the Java-Nusa Tenggara region which can occur starting December 23, 2023.

The existence of a low pressure pattern around the South China Sea also indirectly formed a pattern of encounters, as well as wind bends and caused an increase in the growth of rain clouds around Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.

In the past week heavy rain has still occurred in parts of North Sumatra, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi.

Based on data on the analysis of the latest atmospheric dynamics, it can be predicted that the potential for rain still occurs in most parts of Indonesia.

Moderate to heavy rain still has the potential to occur in parts of Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua and Maluku.

"BMKG appeals to the public to remain alert to the possibility of extreme weather during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 periods," concluded Guswanto.
