UK Shooting Falls Drone Allegedly Targeting Cargo Ships In The Red Sea

ANKARA - England on Saturday London time or Sunday 17 December WIB said its Navy had thwarted an attempted attack on a cargo ship in the Red Sea and shot down a drone.

British Defense Minister Grant Shapps said in a post on platform X that "Last night, HMS Diamond shot down an object suspected of a drone targeting a merchant ship in the Red Sea."

The drone was successfully dropped with a Sea Viper missile, Shapps said, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, December 17.

He mentioned that the British Navy ship HMS Diamond " recently arrived in the region to support international efforts to maintain maritime security."

The warship joins Operation Kipion, which is the presence of British maritimes in the Gulf and Ocean of the Indies, in response to rising tensions in the Middle East over Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Although the British defense minister did not name the perpetrators of the attack, the United States on Thursday, December 14 said Yemen's Houthi troops attacked a Marshall Islands-flagged cargo ship south of the Red Sea.

As the US Navy tried to help after theports, the US said, the troops also fired two missiles at their warships but both failed to reach the target.
