ACEH - Simeulue Police, Aceh Province, investigated the destruction of campaign props for legislative candidates in the 2024 General Election in the island district.
Simeulue Police Chief AKBP Sujoko said that many reports of campaign props belonging to election participants were installed in a number of places suspected of being damaged by unknown people (OTK).
"We are investigating the destruction of the campaign prop. This action will certainly tarnish the peaceful election to Simeulue Regency, which is now conducive," he said in Simeulue, Antara, Wednesday, December 13.
The police chief said that his party did not yet know the motive for the perpetrators who damaged the campaign props. He hopes that election participants do not install campaign props in prohibited places and carelessly.
For example, on land or other people's buildings, so there must be a permit from the owner. If the installation does not have a permit, it is risky to revoke the owner of the place.
"The installation of campaign props must also have a permit, don't go anywhere. To the public, we also remind them not to damage or dismantle campaign props for election participants because it is an act that violates the law," he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Simeulue Regency Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslih) Mitro Heriansa said election regulations prohibit any person or election participants or campaign teams from destroying or eliminating campaign props for other election participants.
"Marusing or eliminating campaign props for election participants is a criminal act of election. For violating, sanctions will be given according to existing regulations in the form of fines," said Mitro Heriansa.
Mitro Heriansa said those who were proven to have violated the regulation were subject to a maximum sentence of 2 years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp. 24 million.
"Therefore, we invite the public and all election participants to jointly maintain campaign props. Do not destroy or take other negative actions. Let's jointly realize peaceful elections in Simeuelu Regency," said Mitro Heriansa.
