Mahfud MD Finds A New Place For Rohingya Refugees

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) MahfudMD is looking for a new place for Rohingya refugees because the shelter is currently considered unable to fit.

"We are looking for a way to find a shelter later, because what is there is no longer fit," said Mahfudu after a meeting to discuss Rohingyadilan refugees, ANTARA, Wednesday, December 6.

Mahfud has ordered the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian to coordinate with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkompinda) of Aceh, North Sumatra, and Riau Provinces to discuss plans to relocate the Rohingya refugee location.

During the meeting, he continued, several parties proposed the names of the locations as temporary shelters. However, the location could not be decided at the meeting.

Mahfud confirmed that in the near future he would place the Rohingya refugees in a new location in order to avoid the accumulation of residents.

He also emphasized that these efforts were carried out solely on the basis of humanitarian feelings.

"So, in principle, in principle, we adhere to humanitarian diplomacy because it is humanitarian in nature, so we are looking for a way," said the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

Previously, on Monday (4/12), President Joko Widodo ordered MahfudMD to deal with the problem of Rohingya refugees entering Indonesian territory, involving local governments and UNHCR.

Meanwhile, the Aceh Provincial Government has also coordinated with UNHCR regarding the handling of Rohingya immigrants who landed on Weh Island, Sabang City.

The Aceh Provincial Government together with the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights also coordinated to find solutions for handling Rohingya immigrants who were accommodated in several places in Aceh.
