Dishub Predicts 9 Million Year-End Holidays In DIY

YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta Special Region Transportation Agency (DIY) said the potential movement of people entering and leaving the province is estimated at 9 million people at Christmas 2023 and New Year's 2024.

Acting Head of the DIY Transportation Agency, Sumaryoto, said that the community movement is projected to occur from 22 December 2023 to 3 January 2024.

"Most of them are from DKI Jakarta because Yogyakarta is ranked third for travel purposes from Jakarta," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 30.

Because the ticket price is still high, according to him, the movement of these people is predicted to be dominant using the land route, both in and out of DIY.

"The option is that they will use trains, private vehicles or other land transportation, especially since they are supported by toll road infrastructure," he said.

Sumaryoto explained, based on research from the Ministry of Transportation, the movement of people in DIY has soared compared to the end of the 2022 holiday season, among others, because the Solo-Jogja functional toll road will be operated during the holiday season at the end of next year.

According to him, the Solo-Jogja functional toll road at Christmas and New Year's 2024 will be opened starting from the Kolomadu Toll Exit to STA 13 in Karanganom, Klaten, Central Java.

"So that the Colomadu Toll Road can still go straight to Karanganom, southern Klaten. It will be used, even though the toll road has not been inaugurated," he said.

Meanwhile, from the level of community mobility, according to Sumaryoto, the number of people visiting tourist destinations in DIY is estimated to reach more than 883,000.

To anticipate the density of vehicle flows, the DIY Transportation Agency will prepare traffic engineering by studying community travel patterns.

"The problem is that in the afternoon they are usually focused at one point in Malioboro so we will discuss it with the police in more detail," he said.

According to him, vehicle counter cameras will be installed on a number of roads to monitor and control the volume of vehicles.

This year's holiday season, said Sumaryoto, the DIY Transportation Agency does not install emergency signs for alternative lane appointments because the majority of road users are considered capable of finding alternative routes independently using the Google Map application.

"Later, we will just provide information through social media or from any party to be able to add information on which roads have the potential for traffic jams and which are prone to accidents, as well as prone to puddles," he said.
