Looking For Kratom Leaves, 87-Year-Old Grandfather Hits Floods In Manday River, West Kalimantan

KALBAR - An 87-year-old grandfather named Antonius Amau drowned in the Manday River, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan). The Joint SAR team jumped into the location to search.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kapuas Hulu Regency, Gunawan, said that his party experienced problems in this operation because the flood caused high water discharge at a number of coastal points of the Kapuas River.

"The joint team has certainly prepared technical searches in the midst of the current flood river conditions and hopefully the victims will be found soon," said Gunawan in Putussibau Kapuas Hulu, Wednesday, November 29, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said the Joint SAR team also experienced problems with the telecommunications network at the Jongkong Manday area search location.

The victim Antonius Amau, a resident of Jongkong Manday Village, Bika District, Kapuas Hulu, reportedly drowned in the Manday river, at around 06.30 WIB, Monday 27 November.

Based on a report received by BPBD Kapuas Hulu, Tuesday morning, November 28, the victim was found to have left in a small boat with the aim of picking up the leaves of the krotom (purik).

However, due to the condition of the Manday river's current being quite heavy due to flood conditions, the victim's boat allegedly sank.

In this search, the Joint SAR team consisted of members of the Sintang Basarnas, Kapuas Hulu BPBD, volunteers such as Tagana, Kapuas Hulu Scout TRC, Sat Pol PP, TNI and Polri in sub-districts and villages as well as local residents.
