JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is preparing 177 research topics as the basis for drafting national policies.

BRIN Head Arif Satria in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, said that all research topics would be carried out in 2026. The topics were compiled through a forum with the secretaries-general of ministries to identify research needs to support policy formulation.

"In 2026 we already have 177 research topics for development policy. We get these topics through a forum with all the secretaries-general of ministries to convey the necessary research needs, so that the policy research we do is based on the needs of the ministry," he said.

However, Arif assessed that the needs conveyed by the ministry did not necessarily fully answer the fundamental issues. Therefore, BRIN also opened space for input from Commission X of the DPR RI so that the research conducted was more relevant to the needs of the community.

In addition, BRIN is also strengthening research in the field of sports through the establishment of the Sports Research Organization and strengthening collaboration with universities.

Arif hopes that this step can encourage the development of national sports based on science.

"BRIN is establishing a Sports Research Organization and we are strengthening it with a Research Collaboration Center with universities, so that in the future our sports will be based on science," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Hetifah Sjaifudian, appreciated BRIN's commitment to strengthening research to support the formulation of public policies.

He hopes that BRIN will continue to strengthen its role as the main reference in the formulation of policies based on research, innovation, and data, as well as a think tank that can be utilized not only by the DPR, but also by various ministries and institutions.

"Because our goal is that BRIN becomes a think tank not only for the legislature, but also of course for various other ministries and institutions," said Hetifah as quoted by Antara.
