PAPUA - As many as two potential legislative candidates (caleg) of Sorong Regency in Southwest Papua Province resigned ahead of the determination of the list of permanent candidates (DCT).

"The two Bacaleg who had previously passed the DCS stage were forced to withdraw for different reasons," said Head of the Sorong General Election Commission (KPU), Frengki Duwith in Sorong, Papua, Wednesday, November 1, as reported by Antara.

Frengki explained that one Sorong candidate would resign because he had been accepted as a Government Employee with a Work Agreement (PPPK).

Meanwhile, another one is considered as a candidate who does not meet the requirements (TMS) because it is later discovered that he is still active as a State Civil Apparatus (ASN) in South Sorong Regency.

"One person did resign because he prefers to have a career as a PPPK, then another one is considered TMS, because on the ID card his status is as a farmer / Gardener, even though in fact he is a civil servant," said Frengki.

The resignation of the two candidates will be during the DCT preparation process, so of the total 322 candidates who will qualify in the DCS stage, there will be only 320 candidates left. "It's only two days left before the determination, I hope this process will be missed and there will be no more reduction in Babileg. I'm optimistic that this 320 will pass and be designated as DCT to participate in the 2024 political contestation. But we still want to don't let things go beyond expectations. What is clear at this time, administratively to this day is okay," he said.
