National Police Chief: Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Could Revive Terrorism in Indonesia

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo asked all his staff to increase supervision of terrorist sleeper cells which have the potential to disrupt the implementation of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"Some time ago the impact of the Israeli-Palestinian war certainly also gave rise to sleeper cells affiliated with terrorists and like it or not, we have to be alert," said Sigit at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 1.

Therefore, his staff are asked to continue to be vigilant. The vulnerable points that have been mapped must be guarded and monitored. If a potential terrorist movement arises, Sigit asks his staff to immediately take action.

"Of course, we are preparing pockets in all areas where we suspect that there are a lot of sleeping cells so that we really monitor them closely," he said.

"If there are signs that the impact will disrupt whether it is a stage of the development process or other things, we will immediately take steps," continued Sigit.

By carrying out strict supervision, it is hoped that no acts of terrorism will occur. So, all implementation of the five-yearly democratic party runs safely.

"I think that is part of our duty. Hopefully, we can carry out everything well and everything can run safely," said Sigit.

Previously, Densus 88 Anti-terror Police arrested 59 terrorist suspects, 40 of whom were from the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) group. From the results of the investigation, they plan to thwart the 2024 election process.

"This is a group led by the Air Force (AU), there are so-called planned activities by this group to thwart or disrupt the democratic election party," said the spokesperson for Densus 88 Anti-terror Police, Commissioner Aswin Siregar.

Plans to thwart the 2024 elections because they consider democracy to be an unlawful act. So, it must be destroyed.

"For them, elections are a series of democracy, where democracy is immoral, this democracy is something that violates the law for them," he said.

One of their plans to thwart the implementation of the 2024 elections is by attacking law enforcement officers.
