SAMARINDA - Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes for East and North Kalimantan (Kaltimtara) coordinated with eight Tax Service Offices (KPP) in this area to confiscate tax arrears worth IDR 3.8 billion.

Head of the Regional Office for Counseling, Services and Public Relations of the Directorate General of Taxes, East Kalimantan, Teddy Heriyanto, said the confiscation of assets was the last attempt in tax collection. Previously, taxpayers had been given a letter of warning and a forced letter to pay off tax debts.

"The confiscated assets include five units of motorized vehicles, three plots of land, a sum of money in bank accounts, and two units of heavy equipment vehicles. The assets belong to 12 taxpayers who have a total arrears of Rp. 24.7 billion," Teddy said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 17.

He explained that the confiscation of assets was carried out based on Law Number 19 of 1997 concerning Tax Collection with a Forced Letter as amended several times lastly by Law Number 19 of 2000.

The confiscation of assets aims to control the goods in charge of taxes to be used as collateral to pay off tax debts.

"If it is not repaid immediately, we will sell the assets through a public auction," said Teddy.

Teddy said tax collection is one of the government's efforts to increase state revenue from the taxation sector.

He appealed to all taxpayers to fulfill tax obligations in accordance with applicable regulations.

"We appreciate taxpayers who have been obedient to paying taxes. For those who have not complied, we will continue to enforce the law in accordance with the laws and regulations," said Teddy.
