Giring Admits Asking Kaesang To Be The Chairman Of PSI To Replace Him

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Giring Ganesha admitted that he asked Kaesang Pangarep to serve as PSI General Chair to replace him.

This has also been conveyed to the PSI Board of Trustees. The plan is for Kaesang to become the leader of the party bearing the rose symbol to be carried out in the National Land Coffee (Kopdarnas) which was held tonight.

"Today I will chair the Plenary Meeting of KOPDARNAS to immediately ask the Board of Trustees to ratify Mas Kaesang as chairman," Giring said in his statement, Monday, September 25.

Giring claimed to have communicated with Kaesang for a long time. Before finally Kaesang joined PSI, Giring said that President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) youngest son was very worthy of holding the position of chairman.

"Since my video came out some time ago, I have said, 'It's time to return this party to its real owner'. At that time I had submitted a recommendation to the party, that the young man was Mas Kaesang Pangarep. So there was no sudden or impromptu succession at PSI. Everything is in accordance with the organizational mechanism," said Kaesang.

After not leading PSI, Giring will focus on serving in the PSI Board of Trustees and try to win the seats of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the West Java I constituency for PSI.

Giring also answered various criticisms about the general chairman of political parties being able to recommend a replacement name. PSI, said Giring, always prioritizes collectiveity for a common purpose, namely to qualify for Senayan in the 2024 General Election.

"The spirit of PSI must pass to Senayan in the upcoming 2024 General Election. That is the aspiration of all cadres at PSI," said Giring.

It is known that Kaesang has officially joined PSI. This membership assurance was marked by the handover of party membership cards (KTA) to Kaesang by PSI General Chair Giring Ganesha, in front of President Jokowi's private residence on Jalan Kutai Utara Number 1, Sumber Village, Banjarsari District, Solo City, Central Java, on Saturday, September 23.
