JAKARTA - United States Vice President Kamala Harris brushed aside questions about President Joe Biden's age Friday, saying on television that he is ready to become commander-in-chief, but that it is not necessary.

"Joe Biden is going to be fine," Vice President Harris said when asked about concerns that President Biden is too old to seek re-election.

President Biden, who will turn 81 in November and will turn 82 at the start of a second four-year term in January 2025 if re-elected, faces skeptical American voters who will decide whether to elect a Democrat for a four-year term. the following year in November 2024.

His main rival, Republican Donald Trump, is 77 years old. Meanwhile, Pam Sam Country voters said they wanted to see a younger presidential candidate.

Several Republican presidential candidates, including former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, said the vote for Biden would end with a vote for Harris, who has a 40 percent popularity rating in the average poll compiled by political website Five Thirty Eight.

Earlier, Vice President Harris, on her way to an ASEAN leaders summit in Jakarta, told CBS News, when asked if she was ready to 'take over' the presidency, "Yes, I am ready, if need be."

"But Joe Biden will be fine. Let me tell you something. I work with Joe Biden every day," said Vice President Harris.

In addition, Vice President Harris also dismissed criticism from Republicans, who said choosing him would be risky.

"They feel the need to attack because they fear we will win, based on the results of work that have been done by Joe Biden and me, as well as our government," she said.
