Australian Citizen Killer In Jimbaran Bali Sentenced To 1.5 Years In Prison

DENPASAR - Denpasar District Court Judge sentenced I Gede Wijaya (39) to one year and six months in prison for the murder of Australian Troy Mccallum Scott Johnson (40) on Jalan Belangan, Jimbaran Village, South Kuta, Badung, Bali.

"The defendant I Gede Wijaya was sentenced to imprisonment for one year and six months reduced while the defendant was in detention," said Judge Agus Akhyudi at the Denpasar District Court, Bali, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 24.

The judge in his ruling stated that the defendant Gede Wijaya was legally and convincingly proven to have committed the murder as stipulated in Article 351 paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code (KUHP).

The judge's decision was lower than the demands of the Public Prosecutor who charged the defendant with imprisonment for three years.

Regarding the judge's decision, the defendant Gede Wijaya and his adviser stated that they accepted the verdict.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor Ayu Alit Sutari Dewi stated that she was still thinking about it. The judge also gave the Public Prosecutor seven days if he wanted to file an appeal.

The murder of Australian Caucasian Troy Mccallum Scott Johnson (40) took place at a shop on Jalan Belangan, Jimbaran Village, South Kuta, Badung, Bali on Thursday (23/2) at around 03.00 WITA. Before the murder took place, the victim carried 10 bottles of beer on Wednesday (22/2) at around 20.00 WITA and drank with the perpetrators.

At that time, the victim conveyed his intention to buy a plot of land on Belangan Beach, Badung, Bali. The perpetrator, Gede Wijaya, who heard it, immediately took the foreigner to his half-sister's house behind Uncle Benz's shop, Belangan Beach Street, Badung.

After returning from the perpetrator's half-brother's house, the victim and the perpetrator returned to drinking beer at the original shop. After a while the foreigner caused trouble by throwing a beer botor on the highway until it hit a passing vehicle.

The perpetrator who saw it apologized to the drivers who passed by in front of the road and reprimanded the foreigner's behavior. After that, the victim also smeared the perpetrator's feet and showed his genitals to two people in the shop.

The perpetrator also asked the victim to calm down, but the victim did not accept and took a wooden chair inside the shop to beat the perpetrator.

The perpetrator grabbed the chair and because he was emotional, the perpetrator hit the victim in the head until he fell backwards and could not wake up again.

The public prosecutor (JPU) revealed that based on the results of the post-mortem, it was found that the victim consumed large amounts of alcoholic beverages with low alcohol concentration. This is evidenced to have alcohol levels in the blood amounting to 1,672.85 ppm.

According to the prosecutor, alcohol levels in the blood at that level can cause disorders in the form of conditions that resemble depression, nausea, disorientation, blurred views, assessment disorders (judgmet impairment) of physical problems such as walking disorders and so on.

The prosecutor concluded that the cause of death of the victim was caused by blunt force to the head which caused extensive bleeding in the subspace of the brain's soft membrane.
