TASIKMALAYA - Tasikmalaya Police, West Java, arrested a woman who was involved in a criminal case of trafficking in persons (TPPO). The perpetrator acts as a recruiter with the lure of a big salary to the victim.
"Last Tuesday we secured the perpetrator at his workplace in Majalengka," said Head of the Tasikmalaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Ari Rinaldo, to reporters in Tasikmalaya, as reported by Antara, Thursday, August 24.
The arrest of the perpetrator of TIP initials AW (36) was based on the results of the development of the case of a Tasikmalaya resident who was held captive and abandoned in Malaysia.
The perpetrator was arrested at his workplace in Majalengka Regency, then the police were taken to the Tasikmalaya Police Headquarters for further legal examination.
The perpetrator's confession, he said, only played a role as a recruiter by looking for victims and was promised a large salary as a cleaner at a company, compared to Indonesia's IDR 4 million.
"The perpetrator promised that the victim could work abroad officially with a bigger salary," he said.
As a result of his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 2 paragraphs 1, and 2 or Article 4 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 21 of 2007 concerning Eradication of TIP or Article 81 Jo 69 or Article 83 Jo 68 Jo Article 5 letters b to letter e of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2017 concerning Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers.
"The suspect with this article is threatened with 15 years in prison," said Ari.
Previously, the Tasikmalaya Police and other agencies succeeded in helping the process of repatriating a TIP victim named Lusi (24), a resident of Cikatomas District, Tasikmalaya Regency who was held captive and abandoned in Malaysia for 10 months.
The repatriation effort was made after a report from the victim's family, then followed up by the Tasikmalaya Police until finally the victim was able to return to Indonesia thanks to the collaboration with the National Police Headquarters and the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia.
The victim was interested in working in Malaysia through his friend in Tasikmalaya after being promised to work in a company with a large salary.
However, upon arrival in the destination country, the victim was locked up by the perpetrators of the TIP there, the victim managed to escape and then hid in a durian plantation area in Malaysia, and tried to survive by working in a shop around a durian garden.
