Kampung Sawah Langganan Flood, East OKU Regency Government Asks The PUTR Service To Dredge Sedimentation

SOUTH SUMATRA - The Regency Government (Pemkab) of East Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) is trying to overcome the flood problems that often hit Sawah Village, Martapura District.

East OKU Regent Lanosin Hamzah suspects that flooding often occurs due to a lack of flow downstream due to rivers in the Sawah Village area that have been shallow.

"Kampung Sawah is a flood-prone area that occurs almost every year, so it is necessary to prevent natural disasters from happening again in the area," he said while reviewing flood-prone areas in Kampung Sawah Hamlet, East OKU, South Sumatra (Sumsel), Tuesday, July 25, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, another factor that causes flooding is that the Kampung Sawah area is located lower by about one meter above the Komering River, especially during the rainy season.

Therefore, to overcome flooding, the Regent asked the East OKU Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUTR) Office to immediately deploy heavy equipment to dredge and neutralize river flow.

The relevant agencies were also asked to build a strong wall cliff to hold water so that the river discharge rainy season from upstream flows smoothly.

"With these efforts, it is hoped that the Kampung Sawah area in the future will no longer become a flood subscription," said Lanosin Hamzah.

Meanwhile, the Head of the East OKU PUTR Service, Aldi Gurlanda, said that the factors caused flooding in Kampung Sawah to be handled by his party in the near future.

"So it's natural that water and floods are often submerged. For that in the near future we will deploy heavy equipment to dredge the river so it's not shallow," he said.
