Indonesia Gives Scholarships 22 Palestinian Teens Want To Study At The Defense University

JAKARTA - Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto said that the Indonesian government provides full scholarships for the Defense University (IDU) S1 program for 22 Palestinian students.

The scholarship program, which is effective in 2023, also includes living expenses for students from Palestine.

"This is a full (student) including living expenses. The (student) value will be checked exactly later. (Students who pass the selection) will participate in our program according to our curriculum with the standards we have set," said the Minister of Defense after witnessing the signing of the educational cooperation framework between the Defense University and the Palestinian Embassy at the Ministry of Defense Office, Jakarta, Monday 19 June.

Prabowo continued to explain the selection process, which is currently still ongoing, was held by the Palestinian Government together with the Defense University.

The scholarship recipients who pass the selection are scheduled to arrive in Indonesia in July 2023, and start Indonesian language education in August 2023.

Prabowo conveyed that the Defense University scholarship program was given to a number of study programs, including medicine, pharmaceuticals, engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.

"This is very important for the future of Palestine, and we are very honored to be part of the Palestinian independence struggle," said Prabowo Subianto.

On the same occasion, the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al-Shun assessed that the scholarship program was an important form of cooperation between the two countries.

"Today we signed an education cooperation, and soon 22 Palestinian students will be studying in Indonesia," said the Palestinian Ambassador.

He also expressed his gratitude and gratitude for the various supports provided by Indonesia for Palestine, both in diplomatic channels and in improving welfare and the education sector.

"We are always with Indonesia," said Ambassador Zuhair Al-Shun.

The Palestinian Ambassador and the Chancellor of the Defense University, Vice Admiral (Laksdya) TNI Prof. Amarulla Octavian signed a document on the framework of the Indonesian and Palestinian education cooperation at the Ministry of Defense Office, Jakarta, Monday.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Indonesian Minister of Defense who also took the time to discuss with the Palestinian Ambassador and the Rector of the Defense University in separate rooms.

The scholarship program at the Defense University is a follow-up to the meeting between Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Ibrahim Shtayyeh at the Ministry of Defense Office, Jakarta on October 26, 2022.
