PALANGKA RAYA - One orangutan entered a residential area in the Jalan Victoria area, Bukit Tunggal Village, Jekan Raya District, Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan Province today.
According to Sakini, residents living in the residential area, orangutans entered the residential neighborhood in the morning.
"Initially the orangutan was behind my house, then the orangutan climbed a tree to find food. Even our rambutan fruit was eaten," he said at the location quoted from Antara, Tuesday, April 4.
Worried that the orangutan could endanger the safety of residents, Sukini reported to the Central Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA). "We are still waiting for officers to come to evacuate," he said.
The forest police from the Central Kalimantan BKSDA, Perdi, said that officers would temporarily monitor the movement of the orangutan.
"For the time being, we will continue to monitor by placing officers on guard at the location," he said after monitoring orangutans who entered residential areas in Bukit Tunggal Village.
If possible, the officer will take the orangutan to Sabangau National Park, which is approximately six kilometers from residential areas.
He said that by late afternoon orangutans usually go to the forest to collect branches and make beds.
"When it comes to the afternoon, orangutans will go to the forest to look for wood or branches and make beds," he said.
Perdi said that male orangutans who entered residential areas weighed an estimated 65 to 70 kilograms. He suspects that the orangutans entered residential areas because they were lost.
"If you look for food in residential areas, it may be small, because in Sabangau National Park the food source will not be lacking. So it is possible that these animals got lost into residential areas," said Perdi.
