Floods in Bima Soak 30 Hectares of Rice Ready To Be Harvested, Including the KUA Office And The Sub-district Official's House

NTB - At least 30 hectares of rice plants of residents in the village of Taloko, District Sanggar, Bima, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), were damaged by flash floods. Disaster arose after heavy rains flushed the area.

"The flood also inundated the paddy fields and damaged rice plants, which will soon be harvested in an area of 30 hectares in Taleko Village", said the Executive Head of the Bima Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Isyra, in a statement, Monday, March 6, confiscated by Antara

In addition to the heavy rains, the cause of the floods which damaged the residents' rice crops and submerged the residents' houses was due to the narrowing of the river downstream, so that the water overflowed into the residents' settlements on the banks and agricultural areas.

"There were no casualties, residents only suffered material losses", he said.

Previously, the BPBD of Bima Regency recorded that four villages in the local area were affected by the floods, namely Kuta Village in Lambitu District, Taloko Village in Sanggar District and Pesa and Maria Villages in Wawo District.

"Four villages were hit by flooding due to heavy rains", he said.

He said the flash floods that hit the residents' homes were caused by high rainfall that flushed the local area so that the river water flow in Kuta Village was unable to accommodate the water discharge and overflowed on the main road as high as about an adult's feet.

"In the flood incident there were no casualties, but there was a lot of material on the Kuta Village road which disrupted traffic flow", he said.

Meanwhile, the impact of the floods in Wawo Subdistrict caused one stilt house owned by Sukrin in Pes Village to be washed away by the flood and 10 houses inundated with knee-deep floods and damage to the river talud. In addition, the flood in Sanggar Sub-district submerged tens of hectares of rice plants owned by residents.

"The number of houses affected was 14 units and public facilities such as the KUA office, post office and the Wawo Sub-District Head Office were flooded", he said.

He said the cause of the flooding was also due to the narrowing of the river downstream so that the water overflowed into residential areas on the banks and agricultural areas. After receiving information about the incident, his party immediately carried out emergency disaster management for the affected areas.

"The water condition has started to recede", he stressed.
