February 15-25, Residents of Bintan Island Please Beware of Rob Floods

JAKARTA - The BMKG Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, appealed to coastal residents of Bintan Island to be alert to the possibility of tidal flooding on February, 15-25 2023.

"BMKG has also given an early warning regarding forecasts of tidal flooding on February 15-25 2023", said the BMKG Tanjungpinang Forerunner Robbi as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 15.

Robbi said that the potential for tidal floods to occur was due to tidal activity accompanied by rainfall in the last few days. It is feared that it could trigger sea levels to rise.

According to him, the tide conditions for the coastal area of North Bintan currently reach a height of 2.8 meters. While the Kijang Strait to Tanjungpinang reaches a height of 2.2 meters.

He mentioned several areas predicted to be hit by tidal floods, including coastal areas in North Bintan District, Sebong Bay and East Bintan in Bintan Regency. Then the coastal area in Tanjungpinang City.

"Outside Bintan Island, there is also the potential for tidal flooding, such as the coastal areas of Meral and Pamak Districts in Karimun Regency, coastal areas of Singkep Barat, Singkep Pesisir, Senayang and Selayar Districts in Lingga Regency.

"Coastal residents must be more vigilant. If you are affected by a tidal flood, you should first evacuate to a safer resident's or relative's house, and don't forget to evacuate valuables so they don't get submerged in seawater", said Robbi.
