Ferdy Sambo Sentenced To Death, DPR: Hopefully The Sentences For Other Perpetrators Will Also Increase

JAKARTA - Commission III of the DPR considers that the death sentence handed down by the judge to the former Head of the Propam Polri division, Ferdy Sambo, for the premeditated murder of Brigadier Yosua Hutabarat, has met the expectations of the public by considering legal justice.

"Yes, it is in accordance with the expectations of the community. The community feels that justice has been fulfilled if Sambo is sentenced to death. Even though I am not an adherent of the death penalty school, it is the person who dies who determines God, not humans. Well, this is the decision of the panel of judges," said Member of Commission III of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Trimedya Panjaitan, Monday, 13 February.

With this heavy sentence, according to him, the South Jakarta District Court also wants to improve and restore people's sense of trust in the world of justice.

"We know that in the case of two Supreme Court judges becoming suspects, it has collapsed the public's trust in the judiciary. Yes, hopefully, this will be the start (of the public's trust again)," he said.

"(Hopefully) it will also be a starting point for Sambo and the troops who were part of the perpetrators of the murder of Yosua to his wife and others, and the punishment will also increase," Trimedya continued.

However, this PDIP politician hopes that the judge can also give a light sentence to Bharada Richard Eliezer or Bharada E who was ordered to shoot Yosua. Moreover, Bharada E is the key to disclosing the case to a light.

"But on the other hand, we hope that there will also be progressive courage so that Eliezer will be punished as lightly as possible. So, on the same level, don't Eliezer join you later," said Trimedya.

Meanwhile, a member of Commission III DPR from the Democrat faction, Didik Mukriyanto, assessed that the judge's decision had taken justice into account and contained legal certainty, in addition to benefits for the parties concerned.

In Didik's opinion, a judge cannot pass a decision before it becomes clear to him that the event or fact actually happened. In addition, the judge also considers juridical factors, namely laws and theories related to cases or cases, as well as non-juridical factors, namely looking at the environment and based on the conscience of the judge himself.

"On that basis, if we pay close attention to the course of the Sambo case, starting from the dynamics of the investigation, the investigation, trial process, and the facts of the trial, as well as all the dynamics, I can understand the judge's belief in the decision to sentence Sambo to death," said Didik.
