Fireman of the Medan PN Judge sentenced to 6 years in prison

MEDAN - The Medan District Court has sentenced Fahrul Azis Siregar, the defendant in the burning of a house and theft of jewelry belonging to the Medan District Court judge Khamozaro Waruwu, to six years in prison.

Chief Justice Sulhanuddin stated that the defendant was proven to be legally and convincingly guilty of committing the crime as charged by the prosecutor.

"To impose a sentence on the defendant Fahrul Azis Siregar with a sentence of six years in prison," he said when reading the verdict, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 29.

The panel of judges considered that the defendant's actions caused the victim to suffer trauma, caused material losses of up to hundreds of millions of rupiah, and disturbed the community.

As for the mitigating circumstances, the defendant admitted and regretted his actions, was cooperative during the trial, and promised not to repeat his actions.

The verdict was lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor of the Medan District Attorney's Office, who had previously demanded the defendant a sentence of seven years in prison.

The panel of judges gave the opportunity to the prosecutor and the defendant to express their attitude on the verdict, whether to accept, appeal, or think about it.

In his indictment, the prosecutor said the defendant broke into the victim's house on November 4, 2025, took gold jewelry, then set fire to several points inside the house before leaving the location.

The results of the forensic laboratory examination found indications of the use of fuel oil which strengthened the allegation that the burning was done intentionally.
