JAYAWIJAYA - Jayawijaya Resort Police personnel, Papua Regional Police, in early December 2022 have started increasing raids to prevent the circulation of liquor in anticipation of the production and buying and selling of illicit goods ahead of the 2022 Christmas holiday.

The Head of the Samapta Unit (Kasat) AKP Frets Lahaman said that drinking was the highest trigger for several law violations handled, so extra anticipation was needed.

"For example, yesterday we just conducted a raid and managed to secure 70 bottles of Cap Tikus (CT) mixed liquor in a location that is often used as a place for selling liquor", he said in Wamena, Antara, Tuesday, December 6.

Freds ensured that the police already had a map of the location of the beverage production and also areas that could potentially become production sites. These points receive regular monitoring.

Because the circulation of liquor in Jayawijaya is prohibited by the government, producers use various methods to produce and sell it. And from the several cases found, according to him, drinks were stored in ditches, in pig pens, or the yard and covered with bushes.

"We need community support to report if found so that it can be dealt with more quickly, because yesterday, for example, we asked the community, and they said that the owner had fled. But we have secured the evidence to the Jayawijaya Police for further investigation regarding who owns it", he said.

According to him, the police will continue to make efforts so that people who want to celebrate religious holidays can carry out their worship without being disturbed by drunken people.

"We will continue to take action against the circulation of liquor which is often the main actor in the emergence of criminal acts in Wamena and its surroundings, and often causes problems in society", he said.
