Ahead Of ASEAN Summit Bilateral Meeting, Jokowi Visits Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) started his work agenda in Phnom Penh, Cambodia today, Thursday 10 November.

The head of state visited the Royal Palace of Cambodia for a private audience with the King of Cambodia, His Royal Highness Norodom Sihamoni.

Based on information from the Press, Media and Information Bureau (BPMI) of the Presidential Secretariat, after meeting with Norodom Sihamoni, the President will head to the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel to attend a meeting of ASEAN leaders with representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliament Assembly (AIPA).

At that location, Jokowi will also hold a meeting with the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Next, the President will attend a meeting with ASEAN leaders and ASEAN youth representatives. The agenda was followed by a meeting of ASEAN leaders with representatives from the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC).

In the evening, Jokowi is scheduled to attend the High-Level Meeting of Leaders of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand at the Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit. After that, President Jokowi headed to the Sofitel Hotel to then hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong.

Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi added that the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and other related summits will be held on November 10-13, 2022.

"There are more than 20 meetings and activities that will be attended by the President, plus four bilateral meetings, namely with the Prime Minister of Singapore, the President of the European Council, the Secretary General of the United Nations, and the President of the Asian Development Bank," said the Foreign Minister in a written statement, Thursday, November 10.

According to the Foreign Minister, the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits will be held in the form of plenary and retreat. In the plenary session, the Summit will discuss strengthening institutional capacity and ASEAN effectiveness.

"As for the retreat, there are two major issues that will be discussed, namely ASEAN relations with outsiders, of course, including the external challenges faced by ASEAN and the problem of Myanmar," she concluded.
