8 Houses Drowned By Floods In Mamuju, West Sulawesi, Schools And Houses Of Worship Were Damaged

MAMUJU - Eight houses were only caused by flooding in Kalukku District, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi (Sulbar) based on data from the West Sulawesi Provincial Government.

"A total of eight houses belonging to residents were reported to have been washed away due to flooding in Kalukku Subdistrict, Mamuju Regency, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon (11/10) at around 14.00 WITA," said the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Sulawesi Amri Eka Sakti in Mamuju as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 12.

He said that residents' houses that were washed away were reported in a number of villages in Kalukku District, including four units of drifting houses in Sondoang Village.

In addition, three houses were swept away in South Sinyonyoi Village, then one house was washed away and one was buried and three electricity poles fell in Pammulukan Village.

The West Sulawesi BPBD also noted that a number of schools, health centers, and village offices, and a number of other public services and houses of worship were affected by the flood.

The West Sulawesi BPBD has coordinated with the Mamuju Regency BPBD to handle the impact of the disaster by lowering and lowering emergency response equipment.

"Multi-purpose trucks, troop transport vehicles, two polyethylene boats, refugee tents, electricity facilities, and generators have been deployed at the disaster site," he said.

In addition, the Kalukku Flood emergency response status has been established and a public kitchen has been established at the Kalukku flood evacuation site in collaboration with the West Sulawesi Social Service.

"The West Sulawesi BPBD is also coordinating with the Head of the Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of the West Sulawesi Public Works Ministry to meet the clean water needs of flood victims in Kalukku District," he said.

"Five units of water tankers and two units of water reservoirs were brought down to the disaster site, and set up refugee camps as a result of the coordination," he said.

The West Sulawesi Provincial Government will continue to coordinate with all parties to handle flooding in Kalukku District.

Based on provisional data from the government in Mamuju, at least 1,625 housing units were flooded and damaged, while about 5,271 people are being handled by the Mamuju government as refugees.
