Effect Of Rising Prices, People Are Willing To Buy Cracked Shell Eggs

JAKARTA - Due to the increase in egg prices which reached IDR 30,000 per kilogram, people turned to buy cracked eggs at Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta. Rizal, one of the chicken egg traders, said that he sells cracked eggs at a price of IDR 1,500 per piece.

"The buyers (of cracked eggs) are those who consume it at home, some are restaurant traders. If the eggs are broken, they are sold per piece, depending on the stock," he said.

Rizal again added that the cracked eggs he sells have incomplete shells, which are usually caused by collisions in the distribution process from the farmer level to market traders.

He said that buyers still prefer cracked eggs even though from a hygienic point of view they are different from eggs in good condition.

According to Rizal, the current buyers of cracked eggs do not only come from restaurant owners as before the price increase. But today's buyers also come for household consumption needs.

"The price has not gone down because the price is still expensive at farmers. It is IDR 30 thousand in the market, whereas at the level of small stalls it will be more expensive," said Rizal.

The man, who has been selling chicken eggs for 10 years, said that buyers still choose cracked eggs because they are basic food commodities that are needed every day.

"If eggs are broken, the price is the same, there is no increase. Actually, if there are buyers, even though there are still many expensive eggs, the important thing is that the supply is there, not rare," said Rizal.
