KUPANG - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Gakkum) for Environment and Forestry has implemented a multi-door criminal law for six perpetrators of bombing fish and destroying coral reefs in the waters of Loh Letuho, Komodo National Park Area, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.
"The Law Enforcement of KLHK investigators and the West Manggarai Police apply multiple layers of punishment so that the maximum punishment can be given to the perpetrators," said Director General of Law Enforcement of KLHK Ratio Ridho Sani at a press conference for the Directorate General of Law and Human Rights at the Marina Labuan Bajo Port, Antara, Monday, August 29.
Law Enforcement of KLHK investigators arrested six perpetrators from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara who were arrested on August 19, 2022, under the RI Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems Article 40 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 33 paragraph 3.
The punishment for the perpetrators is a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of IDR 100 million.
Meanwhile, West Manggarai Police Investigators applied Article 1 paragraph 1 of the Emergency Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 12 of 1951 concerning Amendment of the "Ordonnantie Tijdelikje Bijzondere Strafbepalingen" (STBL.1948 Number 17) and Law of the Republic of Indonesia Formerly NR.8 of 1948 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the 1st Criminal Code.
Ratio Sani stated the commitment of the Law Enforcement of KLHK to secure Komodo National Park from environmental and forestry crimes, especially the taking of marine products using explosives.
The Law Enforcement of KLHK and the West Manggarai Police are also developing this case to find other perpetrators, including financiers and suppliers of explosives.
"Securing the KNP area is our commitment," he said.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for West Manggarai Police, AKP Ridwan, added that all the administrative files for the perpetrators had been completed so that they could be sent to the West Manggarai District Attorney's Office soon.
He said the West Manggarai Police and the Law Enforcement of KLHK continue to coordinate to monitor KNP's territorial waters for environmental crimes.
