JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR By Soleh urged the government to immediately establish a Personal Data Protection Agency (PDP). This is because the establishment of an institution that will protect the data of the Indonesian people is a mandate of the law.

"Article 58 of Law (UU) Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (PDP) states that the president has set an institution that provides personal data protection. The institution is directly responsible to the president," said Soleh, Thursday, December 19.

According to Soleh, the provisions regarding the establishment of the institution are regulated in a presidential regulation (Perpres). However, until now, his party is still waiting for the Presidential Decree which will regulate the existence of the PDP Institution.

The task of the Personal Data Protection Agency later is to formulate and establish policies that guide all parties. The institution is also tasked with overseeing administrative law enforcement against violators of the PDP Law. The institution also has an obligation to facilitate dispute resolution outside the court related to PDP

"Personal data protection is one of the human rights that is part of personal protection," said Soleh.

The West Java XI electoral district legislator hopes that the PDP Institute can guarantee the protection of the rights of data subjects, provide a good climate for data protection in Indonesia, and prevent uncertainty for the implementation of electronic services in Indonesia.

"The existence of the PDP Institute is expected to have a positive impact on the development of the digital economy and digital transformation in Indonesia," said Soleh.

Soleh emphasized that the government must move quickly to form an institution that is directly under the president. Because the existence of this institution is very important for the digital world.

Moreover, continued Soleh, the misuse of personal data in Indonesia has been rampant lately. As if, he said, Indonesian people's data is not worth it because of the personal data of the people used by a number of parties to make economic benefits.

"The practice of misuse of personal data must be stopped. Many data are used for fraud and crime. This is very disturbing," concluded Soleh.
