Police show evidence of subsidized gas abuse in Girimekar Village, Bandung Regency, West Java/ANTARA

BANDUNG - The Bandung Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) revealed a case of misuse of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) in Girimekar Village, Cilengkrang District, Bandung Regency, West Java, which cost the state up to Rp360 million.

Bandung Police Chief Kombes Kusworo Wibowo said that there were two suspects who were arrested, the initials SR and AH. They are suspected of transferring subsidized gas from 3 kilogram cylinders to 12 kilogram cylinders to be sold at non-subsidized prices.

"There is information from residents around here, in Cilengkrang District, where people buy gas cylinders of 12 kilograms, but they run out faster than usual," said Kusworo at the location for the misuse of LPG gas cylinders, Antara, Wednesday, August 24.

Starting from the information from the community, members of the Satreskrim immediately conducted an investigation into the location. After being investigated, according to him, the perpetrators were caught red-handed committing the crime.

"So a 3-kilogram tube is injected into a 12-kilogram tube with a syringe, then coated with ice as well, making the process easier," he also said.

After being arrested by the police, the perpetrators admitted to selling the 12 kilograms of gas for Rp. 160,000 per cylinder. Meanwhile, according to him, the original price of the 12-kilogram gas is Rp. 205 thousand.

However, he said, the 12 kilogram tube sold by the perpetrators did not weigh 12 kilograms, but only 10 kilograms. Because, he said, the 12 kilogram tube was only filled with three 3-kilogram tubes.

"In one week, it can do three injections, per one injection it is 150 3 kilogram tubes to 50 12 kilogram tubes," he said.

According to him, the perpetrators have been carrying out their actions since March 2022. According to him, SR has the role of having a gas cylinder agent base permit, while AH has the role of looking for rubber, seals, and syringes to transfer the gas.

At that location, according to him, the police confiscated evidence in the form of 247 gas cylinders, with details of 75 3 kg gas cylinders containing, 73 empty 3 kg gas cylinders, 16 filled 12 kg gas cylinders, 16 empty 12 kg gas cylinders, and other evidence.

"So when we carried out the raid, they were caught red-handed and the evidence was immediately thrown into a water reservoir," said Kusworo.

As a result of their actions, the perpetrators were charged with Article 53 and Article 55 of Law No. 22 of 2001 concerning the illegal misuse of gas, which carries a maximum penalty of six years in prison and a fine of Rp. 60 billion.
