WhatsApp And Instagram To Be Blocked By Ministry Of Communication And Informatics If They Don't Register To PSE, DPR: All Companies Must Follow The Rules

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) threatens to block a number of platforms or applications on devices if they do not register with the Private Scope Electronic System Operator (PSE) according to the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information (Permenkominfo).

To note, until early July, there were no names of tech giant companies listed by PSE, starting from Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, and Netflix. This company is threatened with being blocked if it is not registered to PSE.

Responding to this, Member of Commission I DPR RI Faction PDI-P (PDIP) TB Hasanuddin encouraged all these technology companies to follow the rules by registering PSE.

"All companies must take responsibility for following the rules, but they must also pay attention to the public interest," Hasanuddin told reporters on Monday, July 18.

The PDIP politician assessed that there were no problematic articles in the Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation No. 10/2021 concerning Amendments to the Minister of Communication and Information Technology No. 5/2020 with a Private Scope PSE.

Instead, said Hasanuddin, the regulation is a form of firmness in protecting the community. Therefore, he appealed to digital platforms to immediately register with PSE.

"In my opinion, the article is not serious. It is a form of firmness in protecting the community. It's just a matter of applying it in the field," he said. Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) asked digital companies such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Google to immediately register their companies as Electronic System Operator (PSE) Private Scope. PSE registration can be done until July 20, 2022.

The Ministry of Communication and Information has threatened to block WA, IG, and Google the following day, July 21 if they do not register their companies immediately.

Plate explained that in the regulation on the registration of Private Scope PSE, the government does not see whether the company is from within the country or from abroad. This is because the Ministry of Communication and Information applies the same thing, namely that all PSEs are required to register with the state. It's already necessary to register," Johnny told reporters in Central Java, Thursday, July 14.

"I do not separate whether this is a global PSE or a local PSE, but private PSEs, both pure private and state-owned enterprises, must register. Public PSEs such as PeduliLindungi for example also need to register, the mechanism is a public PSE registration mechanism. PSE is public," Johnny continued.

According to him, this registration is a form of compliance with state regulations, where the digital sector is given so much opportunity. "Registration is easy because it is done through OSS or online single submission, so there is no reason for administrative obstacles," said Johnny.
