MPV Carens EV, Kia's New Weapon Designed for Indonesian Families

JAKARTA - Various well-known automotive manufacturers continue to present environmentally friendly vehicle options in the Indonesian automotive market, which means that there are more choices for consumers.

Most recently, Kia Sales Indonesia officially presented the latest electrified vehicle at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026. The name is not unfamiliar. Yes, the model in question is the Carens EV.

The model represents the vision of the South Korean brand in presenting a future of smarter, sustainable, and increasingly relevant family mobility to the needs of Indonesian society.

"Through Carens EV, we want to show how the Carens DNA can evolve into the electrification era without leaving the comfort, flexibility, and character that have always been the choice of Indonesian families," said VP Operation Kia Sales Indonesia, Harry Yanto, when met at ICE BSD, Tangerang, some time ago.

Exterior and Interior Design

From VOI's direct monitoring at the Kia booth, the Carens EV comes with a modern and futuristic exterior design, as well as Kia's signature design language. The front comes with all-LED lights and distinctive lines. The front also comes with a charger port for charging. Turning to the front, the distinct lines add to the modern impression of this model, and the back is also minimalist but still elegant.

Adopting the distinctive character of Carens, Carens EV is designed as an electric MPV that still prioritizes the comfort of all family members, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle technology that is relevant to the mobility needs of Indonesian families.

Entering the cabin, the Carens EV presents a more premium experience through a panoramic display, panoramic sunroof, and connectivity features designed to make every journey more intuitive and enjoyable for all passengers. Modern features

In addition to providing comfort, Carens EV is also designed with various safety technologies and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features to support a more practical, safe driving experience and provide peace of mind for all family members.

Referring to the global market, the Carens Clavis EV, features ADAS Level 2 with more than 20 autonomous driving functions, such as Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keeping and Front Collision Avoidance Assist (car, pedestrian, cyclist, junction, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance, and Driver Attention Warning Additionally, the EV includes 18 standard safety features, including six airbags, ESC, HAC, DBC, ISOFIX anchors, and rollover sensors that trigger airbag deployment.

To Be Built in Indonesia

Kia's seriousness to work on the Indonesian market should not be questioned, because it continues to strengthen collaboration with the national electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem. This effort is carried out to support the increase in the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of Kia's electric vehicles which currently has exceeded the government's minimum requirement of 40 percent and is projected to continue to increase to exceed 80 percent.

Through the production process at the local factory in collaboration with HMG Production Facility and battery supply support from Hyundai LG Indonesia, Kia is building a stronger local production foundation.

One of the results of the collaboration is the plan to use locally produced NMC technology Lithium-Ion batteries in Kia's electric vehicle line-up in Indonesia. This technology offers high energy density, optimal range, and faster charging capabilities, while supporting Kia's commitment to providing electric vehicles with global quality standards.

The distance traveled has not been announced, but referring to the global market, it comes with a choice of 42 kWh or 51.4 kWh batteries that offer a range of 490 km on a single charge, and are able to charge from 10-80 percent in just 39 minutes, and are equipped with V2L.
