JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) urges the public to be more careful in checking every photo or video that circulates on social media and various digital platforms. This step is important to avoid misunderstandings due to old content that is re-uploaded without accompanying clear information about time, location, and context.

Director General of Public Communication and Media of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Fifi Aleyda Yahya, said that the public needed to increase digital literacy by not directly believing or sharing a content before ensuring its authenticity and context.

"People need to be more critical of every information they receive. Don't immediately believe it, let alone spread photos or videos of demonstrations before confirming the time, location, and source," said Fifi in Jakarta, Sunday.

According to Fifi, uploading photos and videos that do not include information about the place, time, source, and context of the incident have the potential to mislead the public. This condition can trigger misunderstanding, form a wrong perception, and complicate the situation in the community.

He emphasized that the government still respects people's freedom to obtain and disseminate information as guaranteed by laws and regulations. However, this freedom must be accompanied by the responsibility to ensure that the information disseminated is accurate, true, and not misleading.

Kemkomdigi reminded that the dissemination of information that is not in accordance with facts can have various negative impacts, ranging from triggering public panic, increasing polarization, to disturbing public order.

Therefore, the public is urged to carry out a simple verification before sharing a content. This step can be done by checking the upload date, ensuring the credibility of the source of information, and comparing the content with the news from trusted mass media.

"The digital space must be a healthy space. Differences of opinion are a natural thing in democracy, but the spread of incorrect information can actually harm the wider community," said Fifi.

He also invited all internet users to jointly maintain a safe and conducive digital ecosystem.

"Therefore, let's work together to keep the digital space informative, peaceful, and responsible," he added.

Kemkomdigi Strengthen Digital Space Supervision

In addition to urging the public to increase vigilance, Kemkomdigi also continues to monitor the development of issues circulating in the digital space. Supervision is carried out through collaboration with various parties, ranging from ministries and agencies, digital platforms, mass media, fact-checking communities, to other stakeholders.

The collaboration aims to prevent the spread of negative content, strengthen people's digital literacy, and maintain the security and quality of digital spaces in Indonesia.
