COVID-19 Cases Are Indeed Sloping, But There Are 5 Provinces Experiencing An Increase

JAKARTA - There are five provinces on the islands of Java and Bali that have experienced an increase in positive cases of COVID-19. And this situation needs to be watched out for.

"In the last few days there has been an increase in the proportion of new cases in Java-Bali, but when compared to the peak situation, it is still very far away", said Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 12.

On April 10, 2022, there was an increase in 169 new cases in Java-Bali which is expected to continue to grow in the next few days.

The five provinces in question are DKI Jakarta, Central Java, Bangka Belitung, North Kalimantan, and Bali.

"This increase in positive numbers will increase the risk of a higher transmission rate", she said, quoted from Antara.

The increase in the rate of cases in the region is below 0.1 percent of the Omicron wave situation that occurred in February 2022.

Nadia, who also serves as the Public Health Secretary of the Ministry of Health, said the increase in cases in the five provinces needed to be watched out for even though the national situation continued to slope consistently.

"We know that the pandemic situation continues to improve, but we need to remain vigilant, especially shortly there will be a fairly large religious celebration and this will be a test for us together", she said.

Although the national COVID-19 confirmation rate fluctuates, said Nadia, in general, there has been a significant decline in cases compared to the previous week.

"Yesterday, 2,930 cases were reported, an increase from the previous few days and fluctuating", she said.

Cases of death decreased by 33 percent or to 75 people. That number decreased from the weekly report of 100 people", she said.

Meanwhile, the "positivity rate" or the proportion of positive people out of all people tested in the past week reached 4.6 percent and the daily positivity rate is 3 percent. "This figure is already below the World Health Organization (WHO) figure of 5 percent", she said.

The indicator for hospital care and isolation is 6.67 percent or already below 10 percent of the hospital occupancy target, said Siti Nadia Tarmizi.
