The Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Taiwan Alumni (ICATI) Jakarta, Simon Hu, said Taiwan offers many advantages that are relevant to the needs of today's young generation.

"Supported by competitive education and living costs, as well as various scholarship programs and internship opportunities, Taiwan is an increasingly popular study choice for Indonesian students," said Simon Hu at the Taiwan Higher Education Fair Indonesia (THEFI) 2026 press conference in Jakarta, recently.

1. Quality of education recognized by the world

One of Taiwan's main attractions is the quality of its universities. A number of universities in Taiwan consistently rank among the world's best universities, with three of them in the ranks of world-class universities and several others in the top 500 internationally.

This condition provides an opportunity for students to study with high academic standards, supported by qualified teaching staff and research facilities.

2. The cost of living is relatively affordable

Apart from the quality of education, the cost factor is an important consideration for prospective students. According to Simon Hu, the cost of living in Taiwan is still quite friendly for Indonesian students.

"The cost of living in Taiwan, in general, is almost the same as in Jakarta, so it is still affordable for students in Indonesia," he said.

With costs that are competitive compared to many other study destinations, students can manage daily expenses without too much burden.

Taiwan also provides opportunities for international students to work part-time according to applicable regulations.

Furthermore, Indonesian students who continue their studies in Taiwan generally choose programs at public universities and vocational universities. At the university level, majors such as management, finance, information technology, health, and various technological fields are popular.

"Meanwhile, in vocational education, business administration, food and beverage, architecture, and health are also in demand because they are considered to have good job prospects," said Simon.

For prospective students who want to know more about the education system in Taiwan, the Taiwan Higher Education Fair Indonesia (THEFI) 2026 is an opportunity to obtain information directly from campus representatives.

This educational exhibition will be held in five cities, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, and Medan. THEFI 2026 is the 10th event since it was first held in 2013.

This year, a total of 65 universities from Taiwan together with UECFOCS are targeted to participate by presenting more than 180 delegates, ranging from rectors, vice rectors, deans, lecturers, to heads of international relations offices.

In addition to introducing flagship study programs, the delegates will also explore opportunities for cooperation with universities as well as high schools and vocational schools in Indonesia.
