Jokowi Orders His Ministers To Stop Talking About Extending President's Term And Postponing Elections

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered his ministers to focus on work. They were asked to stop talking about postponing the election or extending the presidential term.

"Don't cause polemics in the community. Focus on working in dealing with the difficulties we face," said Jokowi when opening the Plenary Cabinet Session which was broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube on Wednesday, April 6.

"Don't let anyone say anything about delays, extensions. No," he said.

He reminded his ministers to have a sensitive attitude or sense of crisis to the difficulties experienced by society today. According to Jokowi, it is more important for his ministers to explain to the public regarding the difficult global situation.

"Convey the language of the people and the steps that have been taken by the government in dealing with the crisis and rising inflation," said Jokowi.

As previously reported, the issue of postponing the election as well as the addition of the presidential term was brought up by a number of ministers in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.

In fact, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan once stated that there were 110 million social media residents who wanted the 2024 General Election (Election) to be postponed.

Not only Luhut, but the extension of the presidential term was also voiced by political party officials. On average, the reasons for the party elite agreeing to postpone the 2024 election are based on public aspirations.

Those who agreed that the election was postponed were the General Chair of the PKB Party Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin, the General Chairperson of Golkar, Airlangga Hartarto, and the Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Zulkifli Hasan. All three are from parties that support President Jokowi's government.
