JAKARTA - The National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Andika Perkasa encourages more intense cooperation and interaction between the Indonesian Navy and the South Korean Navy.

Andika explained that a more intense relationship could strengthen the cooperation between the Indonesian Navy and the South Korean Navy in various fields, especially in the development of defense equipment and submarine technology.

"I want to see the partnership between the South Korean Navy and the Indonesian Navy interact more closely and more intensely," Andika said to South Korean Naval Staff Chief Admiral Kim Jung-soo as broadcast on General TNI Andika Perkasa's Youtube channel which was monitored in Jakarta, Monday 28 March.

During the meeting, Admiral Kim Jung-soo through an interpreter said that he had discussed with the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy Admiral Yudo Margono about increasing military cooperation between the two countries.

Kim Jung-soo told the TNI Commander that the two parties had agreed to increase cooperation in various fields.

Quoted by Antara, Indonesia, and South Korea have built military cooperation ranging from joint exercises to the development of defense equipment and submarine technology transfer.

KRI Alugoro-405 is a form of military cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea, especially in the construction of submarine defense equipment.

The submarine was built at PT PAL's shipyard in Surabaya, East Java, in collaboration with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME), South Korean shipbuilding, equipment, and marine technology company.

Related to that, the TNI Commander asked the Navy to dig up more knowledge from South Korea, which already has a lot of knowledge and information about submarine technology.

During a meeting between the TNI Commander, South Korean Chief of Staff, and the Navy Chief of Staff, Andika gave a souvenir in the form of a rencong, a traditional Acehnese weapon, for Kim Jung-soo.

Andika hopes that Kim Jung-soo has a place in his office to display the rencong.

At the same meeting, Kim Jung-soo gave a historically valuable souvenir to the TNI Commander.
