The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) ensures that the quality of service for passengers with special needs at airports is running well.

Secretary of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation Sigit Hani Hadiyanto in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, June 5, said that this was done by holding socialization related to passenger services with special needs for air transportation.

"Socialization needs to be done to ensure that all passengers get good and equal and quality services, including for those who have special needs," said Sigit.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has again held a Socialization related to passenger services with special needs for air transportation carried out in Tangerang.

"This activity is a follow-up to the previous socialization which was held on April 19, 2024," said Sigit.

Socialization is carried out, said Sigit, to increase understanding, provide information and discuss applicable regulations so that stakeholders in the field of aviation can improve passenger service standards with special needs at airports.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the National Commission for Disabilities, the Ministry of Transportation's Disability Inclusion Team, Airport Organizers, and also associations for persons with disabilities were present.

He said that the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number PM 41 of 2023 concerning Airport Services at airports, stated that airport operators must have service standards by taking into account the principles of consumer protection which includes airport service standards and service level agreements.

"The airport manager is expected to be able to carry out the airport service standards consistently and responsibly," explained Sigit.

Sigit also said that as a business actor, the Airport Business Entity (BUBU) is required to carry out airport services correctly, honestly and non-discriminatory because all flight service users have the same right to be able to get access to flight service services.

Service at the airport provided by airport operators must also pay attention to the condition of service users, in order to get the same service, without discrimination.

"We all know that most people with disabilities in Indonesia live in vulnerable conditions, there are restrictions, obstacles, difficulties, and eliminating of disability rights that limit space for movement in public facilities and services," he also said.

For this reason, the Ministry of Transportation has set KM 127 of 2023 concerning the Establishment of the Ministry of Transportation's Disability Inclusion Team, in the context of involving persons with disabilities as users to be able to participate in the inclusive infrastructure development planning process.

This, added Sigit, is an effort by the Ministry of Transportation in providing inclusive transportation infrastructure to the community fairly and evenly.

Sigit ensures that all passengers, including passengers with special needs, get the best service at the airport starting from pre-in-post flight.

Therefore, his party continues to conduct socialization and education to stakeholders in the field of air transportation.

"We all know that currently the development or changes in airport facilities are better and more disability-friendly. Airport and airline managers are certainly expected to continue to improve these services," added Sigit.

In the same place, the Head of Legal Affairs of the Secretariat General of Civil Aviation, Gali Sarjono K, explained that there are two things that need to be developed, namely awareness and hospitality crew for friends with disabilities.

Not only facilities, but awareness and hospitality crews also need to be improved by training, capacity building and collaboration with colleagues with disabilities. So that we understand how to help and serve passengers with special needs," said Gali.
