The Senggigi Area Is Beautiful, But Just 35 Kg Of Cigarette Butts In A Day Can Reach 35 Kg

JAKARTA - Lombok Ocean Care (LOC) said that waste in the tourist area of Senggigi, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara ahead of the Mandalika MotoGP event requires serious attention. Just imagine, in a day the existing waste can reach 1.4 tons.

"The Senggigi tourism area currently needs the attention of all parties to clean up trash", said LOC Chair, Christine Sakinah Nauderer, in Mataram, Tuesday, March 8, quoted from Antara.

This figure, she said, was based on the results of the "World Clean Up Day" activity in September 2021, namely 900 kilograms of organic waste collected, 400 kilograms of non-organic waste, 85 kilograms of marine waste.

"Cigarette butts alone collect 35 kilograms. It is dangerous if thrown into the sea and eaten by fish", she said.

According to her, the amount of waste in the Senggigi area cannot be counted, it could even be more than one ton if collected. "You can imagine when it hasn't been cleaned from the end of 2021 to the beginning of 2022", she said.

Many factors have caused the condition of the Senggigi area to be bleak apart from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The attention of the government, as well as business and tourism actors as well as residents, lack participation in environmental conditions such as waste which is currently not being paid attention to.

"NTB is known for halal tourism, but the condition of cleanliness from organic and non-organic waste is not paid attention to. Even though cleanliness will make tourists feel comfortable to visit", she said.

For this reason, LCO together with other communities will hold the "Senggigi Clean Up" on March 13 to support and make the Mandalika MotoGP event a success.

In addition, this activity aims to provide education to the local community and NTB in general. Some of the trash bins that need to be cleaned are along the Senggigi area. In addition, some garbage is in the mouth of the river and along the coast.

"They will be inspired and care more about nature and the environment", she said.

With these activities regularly, in the future, the Senggigi tourist destination will be cleaner and remain a tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

"We hope that all tourism actors will participate and maintain the location of our livelihood", she said.
