3 Sampang Migrant Workers Died In Malaysia And Brunei

SAMPANG - The Office of Investment and One Stop Integrated Service and Manpower (DPMPTSP-Naker) of Sampang Regency, East Java released three Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from the region who died.

"The data on migrant workers who died, starting from January 1 to 25, 2022," said Head of the Manpower Placement and Development Division of DPMPTSP-Naker Sampang Agus Sumarso, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 26.

Two of the three migrant workers who died were working in Malaysia, while the other was in Brunei Darussalam.

"Based on our records, of the three migrant workers who died, two of them went through illegal channels, while the rest went through official channels," he said.

Agus said the three PMIs who died at their workplaces abroad had now been returned to their respective hometowns.

"The last migrant worker who died was Ismail Bahar, a resident of Ketapang Laok Village, Ketapang District," said Agus.

According to him, Ismail Bahar died as a result of a work accident after being hit by the tailgate of a truck while repairing it.

The other two migrant workers are a married couple from Jelgung Village, Sampang. He died due to a traffic accident.

Agus Sumarno said the district government picked up directly to Juanda International Airport and provided compensation to the families of the victims.

"Free, nothing ordinary," he said.

In 2021, as many as 35 PMI from Sampang Regency were recorded to have died abroad. In 2020 there were 93 people, bringing the total number of migrant workers who died from 2020 to January 25, 2020, as many as 131 people.
