JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that currently there are still around 13.9 million people who are targeted for vaccination in Java-Bali who have not received vaccine injections.

"There are still 13.6 million people in Java-Bali or 9 percent who have not been protected. Well, this is not a small number", Luhut said in a virtual press conference, Monday, January 10.

The good news is that currently only 2 regencies/cities in Java-Bali have their first dose of vaccination still below 50 percent. Meanwhile, child vaccination in Java-Bali has reached 26 percent.

Luhut also encouraged local governments to accelerate vaccination, especially in districts/cities where the first dose is still below 50 percent.

"From this achievement, the government is not satisfied and we want to push again so that the number of vaccinations continues to increase", said Luhut.

Based on records as of January 9, the achievement of vaccination in Indonesia at the first dose reached 170,143,626 people and the second dose reached 116,819,952 people.

On that occasion, Luhut said that the health care system in Indonesia is currently quite ready to face the new variant of COVID-19. Therefore, he asked the regional government to immediately alert the mitigation of COVID-19 patient care services if the number of cases increased again.

"The government also continues to take precautionary steps by asking all regions as early as possible to prepare hospitals and centralized isolation to mitigate unwanted things", he said.
